
October 2- The fans at R.O. Giles Field got their money’s worth when the Tazewell Timberwolves middle school hosted the Scott County Scotsmen, also known as the Huntsville Bears. If you are the type of person that loves defense, you were disappointed. Both teams scored early and often. Cage Austin got the scoring started for Scott. The conversion failed, 6-0. Tazewell rallied on the legs of Isaac Hagerman and Trevaur Taylor. Taylor scored on a 16-yard run and also scored on the conversion try. The Timberwolves led 8-6. Austin scored his second, but the conversion failed, 14-0. Austin then scored his third of the night on a 71-yard run, but they missed the conversion, 20-8. Taylor then went 63-yards for the score, and Hagerman made the conversion, 20-16. Casen Strunk then went 32 yards for a rushing touchdown, but the Scott conversion pass was incomplete, 26-16. Taylor struck again, this time he went 51-yards just 1:34 before the half. This time the Timberwolves failed on their conversion, 26-22. Scott wasn’t done as they scored again on an Austin 13-yard keeper but once again their conversion try failed, 32-22 at the half. The Timberwolves cheer team performed during the half.
During the start of the third, the Timberwolves had the ball. Taylor went 38-yards to start the drive and finished with a 30-yard rushing TD and the conversion was good, 32-30, with Scott still leading. Strunk rallied, scoring from 54-yards out. The conversion failed again, 38-30. Taylor returned the ensuing kickoff 70-yards for the touchdown plus completed the conversion on a Drake Huston run, tying the game at 38. Scott responded with a Kamden Howard 54-yard pass play to Strunk, and they completed the conversion to lead, 46-38. Taylor rushed for yet another score and the Timberwolves completed the conversion try, tying it again, this time at 46. Strunk later went 74-yards for the final score of the night, and Austin completed the conversion, 54-46. Time ran out on the Timberwolves and the game ended in a Scott win, 54-46, during one of the most entertaining middle school games ever played. Following the game, both teams met on the 50-yard line and said a prayer for the injured players on both teams.
