January 22- Excitement was in the air as the championship and consolation games were ready to be played. Before the champions were crowned, the third and fourth places were determined. The top two teams will land regional tournament spots. *All individual scores are unofficial, please consult official book.
The first game was a consolation girls’ game between Powell Valley and Hancock. It was close at the half, 13-12 but the Lady Indians of Hancock finished strong and won by 10, 34-24 to take third place. Up next was Soldier’s Memorial Middle School versus H.Y. Livesay. Behind 21 points from Trevaur Taylor the Blue Devils had little trouble and won it by the final score of 50-20.
The girls’ championship was next featuring Midway versus Springdale and what a game it was. Tied after one period Springdale started to move ahead and led by eight at the half, 19-11. At the final buzzer, the Lady Owls had won by three at 39-36. Bristol Stone was named MVP with a great week of basketball. Tonight, Stone had 12, Adilyn Kelly scored 10, Madison Parrish had eight, but her game tonight was about making the right pass at the right time, leading to numerous fast breaks. Weaver came in and added seven while Pressley Rose completed the total with four. All tournament selections went to Ella Buchanan, Adilyn Kelly, Averie Weaver and Madison Parrish. Midway was led in scoring by Tori Spurlock with 14, McKinley Miracle and Addison Dyke each scored nine and Kailyn Williams scored four. All tournament selections went to Spurlock, Miracle and Bryce Shields. Other all tournament selections went to Jaylyn Pearman PV, Anna Drinnon HC, Haven Reed HC.
The final game of the night was the boys’ championship. Midway got off to a fast start and led 11-6 after one period of play. The Red Devils extended their lead and at the half were up 22-14. It was an 18-2 third period that all but sealed the deal for Midway and they won 51-22. MVP Jarrett Maples dropped in 20, Bryce England had nine, Chris Holt had six, Bentley Bays had four including a dunk in the final period. Jack Ray also dropped in four along with Landon Callahan and Jaxon Whitaker finished with two. Midway’s all tournament players were Callahan, England, Holt and Bays. Hancock was led in scoring by Gabe Barger and Rylen Seal both with six, Keegan Hoskinson had four, Reagan Brewer had three, Mason Reed along with Kaden Belcher and Kaden Gibson all had one point.
