January 6- The Eagleton Royals were welcomed to Claiborne High School for three games of basketball. With this series being a possible trap series, Claiborne needed to take care of business and not be thinking about the Friday meeting with Cumberland Gap. Up first was the sole junior varsity game and Claiborne’s boys were able to win by the final score of 66-44. Eric Ferguson led Claiborne in scoring with 16. Braeden Bennett had 14 and Noah Burke had 10.
The girl’s game was next, and this one was all Lady Bulldogs winning 64-11. Jacey Ferguson was on a mission early as she hit her first five three-point attempts before hitting her first regular basket. Ferguson ended up with eight three’s and 27 points in total. Rhea Ware had eight, Tayleigh Stansberry had six, Jocelyn Essary played well inside and scored five. Hope Cole had two. Spears was the top scorer for the Lady Royals with five.
The final game was the varsity Bulldogs vs the Royals and this was a back-and-forth contest with at least 11 lead changes. Kris Ford and Drew Epperson both had 16 points, leading the Bulldogs to a two-point win at 61-59. Kaden Williams had nine, Conner King had eight, Lukas Thomas along with Corbin Whitaker and Eric Furguson all had three points. Jackson Caylor was great for the Royals dropping in 24 while teammate Noel Meza Flores also hit double-figures with 15.
Up next is a trip to Cumberland Gap for the first of an away and home series. Below are a few photos from The Zone- AE.
