January 9- Cumberland Gap already had one win against Claiborne this week. The Panther’s junior varsity defeated Claiborne Thursday during an in-school meeting. Tonight, there were three games, the junior varsity girls’ game and two varsity games. Up first were the Lady Panthers’ JV versus the Lady Bulldogs. Cumberland Gap jumped on Claiborne early and won 37-19. Allie Owens had 10 and Natalee Davis scored nine. Cabella Duverney scored six, Audrey Turpin five, Briley Colinger had three. Two other Lady Panthers added scores including Kelly Hatfield and Peyton Owens both with two. Emma Ferguson scored nine for the Lady Bulldogs and Geneva Rose had four. Nunn and Stansberry both finished with two and Bolden had one.

Next on the floor were the girls’ varsity teams. Claiborne led at the half 27-21 but the Lady Panthers made their move in the third. A 15-2 third period for Cumberland Gap shocked the Lady Bulldogs and at the end, it was a 56-45 victory for the Gap. Kelly Hatfield had 15, Jayla Bailey had 14 and Jenna Middleton had 13. Audrey Turpin scored eight and Allie Owens scored one. Lady Bulldog, Emily Buchanan led her team and all scorers with 23 in the loss. Jacey Ferguson had eight, Maci Short had four and three others scored three each, Rhea Ware, Hope Cole and Emma Ferguson.

The final game was the boys’ varsity. Tied at 10 after the first period, Cumberland Gap stormed ahead and led at the half 38-25. The Bulldogs outscored their rival 17-10 during the third but were never able to lead again falling 61-54. Brady Harris was again outstanding with 33 points to lead the Panthers. Kolton Goins had nine, Neil Bunch and Gabe Daniels both had five. Gavin Surber and Keaton Clawson both had two points. Drew Epperson Led the Bulldogs with 24 and Chace Robinette had seven. Kris Ford dropped in six and two others had five each, Lukas Thomas and Kaden Williams. Robby Wilmoth and Conner King scored two and Braeden Bennett scored one.
