September 17, The Rebels of South Greene rolled into town for a district matchup with Cumberland Gap. The Panthers took the opening kickoff but couldn’t get a drive going and punted the ball away.
South Greene ran a spread offense with three and four wide receivers. They used their offense to spread out the Gap and slashed them with the run. The scoring got underway when Buss plowed into the end zone from four yards out. QB Luke Myers kept the ball on the two point conversion and The Rebels held a 8-0 lead at the 6:38 mark in the first.
Brayden Painter of Cumberland Gap took the ensuing kickoff back 80 yards to the house but a holding call back brought the ball back to the Panther 42. The Panthers then put together a nearly 11 minute drive that took us through the end of the first quarter and ended at the 7:53 mark in the second quarter when Ethan Slusher finally found the end zone from three yards out. The two point try was unsuccessful and South Greene led 8-6.
Myers then put together two quick scoring drives by running the ball in twice; from 38 yards and one yard respectively. Myers also ran in both conversions and the Rebels took a 24-6 lead into halftime.
In the third, Myers picked up right where he left off as he found the end zone again and then another successful conversion, his third set of those in three straight drives. Rebels were now leading 32-6 with 8:58 left in the third.
South Greene got one more score on the board from Myers as he hit Ingram from 32 yards out. Panthers blocked the extra point but the Rebels were up 38-6 midway through the third which was also the score at the end of the quarter.
Cumberland Gap held control of the ball for over 30 minutes of game action but never could find their way into the end zone again.
South Greene found the end zone once more late and with a successful extra point, left the score 45-6 which would also prove to be the final score of the game.
