The Zone’s First responder of the Month Award for August is being posthumously awarded to the South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department’s Roger Estes.
Roger E. Estes was born December 11, 1944, and sadly passed away July 4, 2022, while serving the community he so loved. Estes served his country for eight years in the US Navy and after he left military service he began his firefighting career. His first tenure in firefighting was in Derry, New Hampshire and he received numerous awards and degrees retiring from that duty, June 30, 2000.
After that, he moved to Tennessee and began working in Knoxville, Tennessee while volunteering as a fire fighter at South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department where he was admired and loved. All who knew him said he his life was all about serving and helping in any way he could.
James Smith said this about Estes, “Roger you were a damn good man. We had quite a few conversations over the years and if I learned anything from them it was this. You loved your family, and you loved helping the community. You’ll be missed Rest in Paradise.”
Ryan C. Ridley also commented, “Roger was a great partner who never said “no”. Roger was always the first to volunteer to complete the task at hand. Roger was a good Jake!”
On behalf of the Claiborne County community, The Zone thanks Roger for his dedication and love for our community. Continued prayers for his family.
Thank you, Randall Smith, for presenting this award.
