2023 Claiborne County Sports Zone Hall of Fame Inductee presented by Michael Brooks, Farm Bureau: Coach Dayton Parkey

 

The late Dayton Parkey was born January 8, 1961. Parkey received a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College where he was a four-year letter winner in basketball. After graduating in 1983, Dayton taught and coached in the Claiborne County School System. During his teaching career, he was selected by the National Science Consortium for applications and problems-solving project and Tennessee State Board of Education on its Lifetime Wellness Standards Revision Committee. He received his master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in 2005 and his EDS from Lincoln Memorial University in 2008 in administration and supervision. While coaching, he was very successful at Claiborne High School taking his 2000-01 girls’ basketball team to the state tournament, earning the regular season, district and substate championships. The Lady Bulldogs went 27-0 in the regular season and were ranked number one in the AA Classification. This team ended up losing only twice – once in the Regional Championship and in the state tournament. Parkey turned Claiborne County Girl’s basketball into a must watch. Parkey passed away October 14, 2014.
