Cumberland Gap defeats Thomas Walker 36-14

Cumberland Gap (0-1) played Thomas Walker, August 26. It was a much needed home game after falling to Grainger last week.

The Panthers made good use of their home field and Slusher continued his great play by running it in from 13 yards out. He also ran the conversion in to give the panthers an 8-0 lead.

Thomas Walker answered with a TD of their own but the conversion failed. The score was 8-6.

Ellis got in for the Panthers second TD but the conversion failed, 14-6. Slusher then ripped the ball away from a Pioneer and took it all the way for another score but again the Panthers failed to convert the two point conversion.

The half came to an end and the Panthers led 20-6.

The Pioneers scored quickly in the third to narrow the scoring gap to 20-14 but Ellison returned a kick for another Panthers score. Slusher completed the two point conversion and the home team was leading 28-14.

Ellison scored again during the final quarter and Slusher was good on the conversion. That was all the scoring on the night and Cumberland Gap had defended their home field winning 36-14.

The Panthers are now (1-1) on the season and have a bye next week.
