Panthers roll at Lynn Camp

The Panthers of Cumberland Gap rolled up 25E into Corbin, KY on Friday night the 24th of September to take on Lynn Camp High School. The first two drives of The Gap ended with fumbles but their defense held strong and the first quarter came to the end with no score.

Lance Owens found the end zone very early in the second quarter on a 13 yard QB keeper. On the two point try Owens found Logan Napier in the end zone and The Panthers had built an 8-0 lead with 11:11 left in the half.

On the ensuing kickoff, Owens kicked a squib that The Panthers recovered. Owens immediately got back to work and found Napier deep for a quick 40 yard touchdown strike. The two point try was no good and The Gap now led 14-0 with 10:59 remaining in the second quarter.

Bryson Ellis then got into the action on the next Panthers drive and he carried the ball into the end zone from 11 yards out. He then tacked on the two point conversion run for good measures. Cumberland Gap was now leading 22-0 with 3:30 left till halftime.

The Gap defense held strong again and got the ball back to the offense before halftime. The offense didn’t let them down as Ethan Slusher pounded into the end zone from eight yards. Jacob Brown carried in the two point conversion and the score was now 30-0 in favor of Cumberland Gap and that score would take us into the half.

Midway through the third quarter Ellis found his way back into the end zone, this time from 10 yards out. The two point run by Isaiah Daniels was good and The Panthers were now up 38-0 which was also the score at the end of the third quarter.

Lynn Camp finally found the end zone for the first time this season on a carry by #26 late in the fourth quarter but with a running clock it proved to be too little, too late. Final Score from Corbin was Cumberland Gap 38 and Lynn Camp 6.      -BP
