Claiborne’s season ends after 3-1 loss to Elizabethton

Brooke Buchanan gets a good look and shoots the ball by the keeper.

Claiborne High School had to travel to host their soccer game, October 19 due to the CHS soccer field not meeting playoff standards on both dimensions and lighting. Cumberland Gap was gracious enough to allow the Lady Bulldogs to play on their field and what started as a warm evening turned cold by game’s end.

Coach Jeff Sorke knew his team needed to play their style of soccer to win and advance but credit Elizabethton, they did everything possible to keep the Lady Bulldogs from finding their momentum.

The Lady Cyclones scored first at the 33:42 mark in the opening half. At 24:11 Brooke Buchanan answered with the Lady Bulldogs first and only goal of the game.

With around nine minutes left in the first, the Cyclones kicked in their second goal and as the half was ending and with only 36 seconds remaining they added a third to lead at the half, 3-1.

Claiborne was up against the clock and an Elizabethton defense that packed the scoring third of the pitch with defenders. Claiborne only got a couple good kicks on net and the Cyclones took home the 3-1 win and advanced.

Still, the 2021 season was one to remember for CHS as they won the regular season championship plus added the district tournament title to go with it. The future is bright for this young and talented team.
