Lady Panthers softball struggles at Claiborne

Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-0 loss to Claiborne on Thursday. Claiborne scored on a double by Allie Jones, a stolen base by Jones, and a single by Madison Lynch in the first inning.

The Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Claiborne, giving up nine runs.

Claiborne got on the board in the first inning. Claiborne scored one run when Jones doubled.

One bright spot for Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers was a single by Alexia Norris in the second inning.

Emma Myatt was on the rubber for Claiborne. Myatt surrendered zero runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out 17.

Kerry Dixon started the game for Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers. The righty surrendered nine runs on 13 hits over six innings, striking out nine and walking one.

Norris and Piper Edwards all had one hit to lead Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers.

Claiborne scattered 13 hits in the game. Lynch, Hannah Fugate, Myatt, Jones, and Lillie Cox all managed multiple hits for Claiborne. Lynch led Claiborne with four hits in four at bats. Claiborne didn’t commit a single error in the field. Lynch had the most chances in the field with 17.
