RB Cole Jones has huge game as Claiborne Bulldogs defeat Indians, 40-6

September 8- Hancock County was the gracious host of the Claiborne Bulldogs football team Friday. The scoring started early for Claiborne on a Cole Jones 65-yard punt return. The conversion attempt failed, 6-0. The 6-0 score held up until Jones broke free on a 59-yard TD run. The extra point try failed, 12-0. The Indians found the endzone a few minutes later and started putting pressure on Claiborne all over the field. The Indians failed on a two-point try leaving the score, 12-6. That shift in momentum held until the first half was over with CHS leading 12-6.

When the second half began the two teams battled. At the 8:02 mark in the third Claiborne found another score in dramatic fashion. Zay Gerrells and Tyrell Miles hooked up on a 98-yard pass play, thought to be a school record. Once again, the conversion try failed, 18-6. Gerrells later found Korbin Hatfield covering 29-yards this time moving the score to 26-6 after Gerrells also ran in the conversion. Gerrells ran in for another score and completed his second conversion in a row to extend the lead out to 34-6. Jones wasn’t finished placing his name in the scoring line as he turned on the jets and ran 83-yards for the Bulldogs final score of the game. The extra point try failed, 40-6. There was no further scoring, and the game was won by the visiting Bulldogs 40-6.

Without question, Cole Jones was the Matt Compton, State Farm Offensive Player of the Game finishing with a huge stat line including nine carries for 187 yards, averaging over 20-yards per carry.

R.J. Robinson was the Danny England Motors Defensive Player of the Game. Robinson had seven total tackles and played from sideline to sideline in pursuit.
