October 23- Clairfield started their basketball season with a game against a very good H.Y. Livesay team. The junior varsity game was up first, and the home team played good defense with many steals and blocks, although the scoreboard didn’t represent it. The issue for Clairfield’s Eagles was scoring the basketball. Livesay put 26 into the cylinder during the opening period, and by the end of the first half, they led 42-0.
Coming out of the break, Clairfield finally done some damage on the scoreboard, but Livesay was still out front, 46-4.
The first two buckets of the final period belonged to Clairfield’s sharpshooter Abel Hunter, but in the end, Livesay was too strong, winning 48-10.
Hutson Wilder led Livesay with 12, Axel Barton dropped in 10, Samuel Garside and Payton Ray had eight each. Abel Rogers, Elijah Barnett, Levi Barnard, and Colton Fox each had two points. Clairfield was led by Abel Hunter with eight points, and Sawyer Adams had two.
Up next was the varsity boys’ game, and the visiting Eagles went on a 10-0 run. Clairfield struggled on the offensive end and allowed Livesay to lead after one period, 24-0. Propelled by stingy defense, the visiting Eagles pushed their advantage out to 38-0 with 2:22 left in the half. The length of Livesay was a major advantage as they finished the opening half leading, 44-0. Livesay went to the bench heavy, but the scoring remained consistent. A three-pointer marked Clairfield’s first basket of the game; however, Livesay led at the half, 52-3. Livesay pulled back a little during the fourth period, and Clairfield scored from the free throw line and behind the arc. Livesay won this game 62-10.
Co-leading Livesay in scoring was Norris Cadle and Jackson Dixson. Colton Greenwell had eight, and four others dropped in six each, including Bentlee Lewis, Kellan Bolinger, Cooper Brock, and Mason Fortner. Four others dropped in two each, including Caleb Powell, Riley Marsee, Sawyer Cook, and Sawyer Wallace.
For Clairfield, three Eagles dropped in three points, including Jacob Douglas, Bryson Hightower, and Brantley Underwood. Abel Hunter added one point to the total.
