2025 Claiborne County Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament, Day 1

H.Y. Livesay was the hosting school for the 2025 Claiborne County JV Basketball Tournament. All games will be played at Cumberland Gap High School. Day one featured only two games. The first game was Midway versus Soldier’s Memorial Middle School on the girl’s side of the bracket. During the first period it was all Midway. The Lady Red Devils led 6-0. At the half it was 12-3, still in favor of the Red Devils. Midway extended their lead to 13 after three, 16-3, and after the final buzzer Midway won 16-5. *Unofficial scoring totals for Midway was Jaina Huges with eight, Kaia England had four. Ella Worley and Tristan Bone both had two. For SMMS, Jayla Ray and Kennedy Slusher both had two, and Aurora Foister finished with one. SMMS moved to round two and will play #1 seed Powell Valley Lady Indians, Wednesday.

During the boys first game of the tournament, Powell Valley ‘s Indians led by two at the half, 5-3. The second half was when the game got interesting. Leading 8-3 after three periods, the Indians were looking to finish off the Blue Devils; however, Powell Valley and SMMS went to the bench heavy around the two-minute mark and the Blue Devils responded quickly. They outscored the Indians 7-2 during the final period and with a three-pointer by Jaxon Lawson tied the game and forced overtime. Tied at 10, the two teams tipped it off to start the overtime period and Powell Valley was not denied the victory. The Indians outscored the Devils, 6-2, and sealed the victory at 16-12. Carson McDonald led the Indians *unofficially with eight points. Jase Medley and Kage Goins had three each and Charlie Southern had two. Jaxon Lawson had seven for the Blue Devils and Wyatt Blankenship had five. Powell Valley moved into second round action playing #1 seed Midway on Wednesday. There are three games on schedule for Tuesday. Game one will be Springdale versus Forge Ridge on the girl’s side of the bracket and two on the boys. Game two on day two, will be H.Y. Livesay versus Forge Ridge and game three on Tuesday will feature Springdale versus Clairfield.
