December 15- Day one of the 2025 Claiborne County Varsity Basketball Tournament had two games on schedule with the first being Soldier’s Memorial versus Powell Valley on the girl’s side of the bracket. The number five seeded Lady Indians upset the number four Lady Blue Devils, 27-15. SMMS struggled to find the basket all game long. Jalyn Pearman scored 10 points to lead the Lady Indians in scoring. Maizley Barnett, MVP of last week’s JV tournament had six. Cidda-Lee Middleton finished with five, Aaralyn Middleton had four and Ellie Moyers had two. SMMS was led by Lorali Lakins with seven, Makayla Wade had six and Willow Goodin had two.
The second game featured Powell Valley (4 seed) versus Springdale (5 seed). This one was all Powell Valley. The Indians won 43-16 propelled by 16 points from Casen Bolinger. Cooper Chumley had nine, and two others had six including Ryder Richardson and Bentley Siler. Adan Smith finished with two. Springdale was led by Brody Martine with nine, Walker Combs had three and three other Owls scored one point each including Jacob Buchanan, Eli Asher and Jace Gray.
