CHS Wrestling, respect being earned

How long does it take to build a wrestling program? Many at Claiborne High School would say a few years. Coaches Walker, Snow and Lee have seemingly turned a startup program into a respected one in only months. They have tons to master but it’s an undisputed fact that Team Claiborne is quick to learn. Following their match against Carter, Claiborne had won their third match of the season- a great accomplishment. Carter and West Greene made the trip to CHS, December 17 and both left with defeats.

Claiborne’s Athletic Director Craig Ivey said this about the CHS team, “I never dreamed they would be this good, this fast. To win three is a huge thing, I’m proud of them.”

This team will only get better as the program continues but the fast start only ensures the sustainability of the program. Claiborne will need to fill a few more weight classes with athletes to be a solid contender each week but the coaching staff has proven to produce good wrestlers. If a student is interested in joining the team, he or she, can reach out to the coaches or other wrestlers for information. If any business would like to help the team, there is a current need for more and better headgear. Contact Coach Walker at CHS. Here are a few more photos from the matches.
