Claiborne County 4-H Beef Show

The Claiborne County 4-H Beef Show took place Friday, April 12th, at 6 pm at the Claiborne County Fairgrounds Livestock Barn. The Heifer Show started the evening. Registered Shorthorn: we had 2 classes with single entries by Tayleigh Stansberry, therefore Tayleigh won Grand and Reserve Champion Shorthorn Heifer. Registered Shorthorn Plus: we had 1 class with two entries, Jessie Davis won 1st in class and Grand Champion Shorthorn Plus Heifer, and Marlee Patterson won 2nd in class and Reserve Champion Shorthorn Plus Heifer. Registered Simmental: we had 1 class with 1 entry by Ellie Beck, therefore Ellie won 1st in class and Grand Champion Simmental Heifer. Registered Simmental Percentage: we had 1 class with 1 entry by Ellie Beck, therefore Ellie won 1st in class and Grand Champion Simmental Percentage Heifer. Commercial Heifer: we had 3 classes with single entries. The class 1 winner was Marlee Patterson. Class 2 winner was Marlee and her class 2 heifer was Reserve Champion Commercial Heifer. Class 3 winner was Tayleigh Stansberry and her Class 3 heifer was Grand Champion Commercial Heifer. Ellie Beck won Supreme Champion Heifer with her Simmental, Tayleigh Stansberry won Reserve Supreme Heifer with her Commercial heifer, Jessie Davis won 3rd overall with her Shorthorn Plus, Marlee Patterson won 4th overall with her Class 2 Commercial heifer, and Ellie Beck won 5th overall with her Simmental Percentage heifer.
Next was our Showmanship classes. Senior High (9th – 12th grade) winner was Jessie Davis and second place was Jocelyn Essary. Junior High (6th – 8th grade) winner was Marlee Patterson and second place was Brantley Johnston. Junior (5th grade) winner was Jamison Johnston and second place was Ellie Beck. Explorer (4th grade) winner was Jack Essary. One of the highlights of our County Show is our Little Britches show, we had 5 Little Britches participants, and each little britches participant received a ribbon and $10 (donated) for participating.
Then we started our Steer Show. We had 5 classes of steers broken into classes by weight from 434 lbs to 1340 lbs. The first three classes all had single entries, the Class 1 winner was Jamison Johnston, the Class 2 winner was Brantley Johnston, and the Class 3 winner was Brantley Johnston. Class 4 had three entries; Jack Essary won 1st place in class, Jocelyn Essary won 2nd place in class, and Jessie Davis won 3rd in class. Class 5 had two entries; Brantley Johnston won 1st in class and Jamison Johnston won 2nd in class. Brantley Johnston won Grand Champion Steer with his class 5 winner, Jamison Johnston won Reserve Champion Steer with his second-place class 5 steer, Jack Essary won 3rd overall with his class 4 winner, Brantley won 4th overall with his class 3 winner, and Jocelyn Essary won 5th overall with her second-place class 4 steer.
To end the show, we gave out our Specialty Awards: Farm Bred & Fed Heifer went to Tayleigh Stansberry for her Commercial Heifer, Farm Bred & Fed Steer went to Jessie Davis, Herdsman Award went to Marlee Patterson, New Exhibitor Award went to Jack Essary, and The Dan Campbell Memorial Plaque for Grand Champion Steer went to Brantley Johnston. We want to congratulate all of our exhibitors on a great show! We are very Blessed with a great group of 4-H participants, families, and volunteers! We would like to thank Mayor Joe Brooks for coming out to join us and present our Top 5 Heifer and Steer winners with County Certificates! We also want to thank Susan Campbell Harvey and Franklin Harvey for coming out to present The Dan Campbell Memorial Plaque! We also had a wonderful crowd attend this year and we appreciate all of the support we receive within our community for our 4-H programs and our 4-H members. We want to say “Thank You,” to Chance Bow for coming out to judge our county show this year! We also want to thank our Sponsors who donate to our program to help pay for awards and premiums that are presented to our exhibitors each year, so “Thank You,” Claiborne County Farm Bureau, Claiborne Livestock Association, and Tennessee Cattleman’s Association! These exhibitors will be showing again this week at the Knoxville Spring Show this Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th, at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray, TN! We look forward to seeing these 4-H members show at many more shows this Summer (Bristol Steer & Heifer Show – May 4th, Eastern Region Expo – June 13th, and State Expo – June 27th -29th).
